A man who contaminated candy with sedative and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offenses against two children aged nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at the location in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the courthouse on Friday.
Yet, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was remanded in custody prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.
She said his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he ran.
The man engaged in a "candy game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had concerns in recently.
The legal representative added: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about the activities, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor said items including lubricant, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his concerns.
She explained Ruben proceeded to conduct the "candy game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that point," she stated further.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
Mrs Prior stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the family member notified the law enforcement once more.
She explained the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five minors.
